Residency of “Facing Familiar Faces”

Facing Familiar Faces, a duet produced by KAIHO has been awarded a one month residency at Studio Pro Arte in frame of Culture Moves Europe and supported by Goethe-Institut. This will give us the time to fully develop the show from the current 20 minutes into a one hour performance.

The duet explores the fragile nature of a family's collective memory visualised through the relationship of two siblings' different perspectives looking back at their childhood. This powerful family bond is further visualised through the scenography’s fragmented pieces of the parental home.

The physicality as a core element is merged with an easily distinguishable narrative structure, during which the borders between dance and theatre is erased through a multitude of different transitions.

Premiere of our short-film “The currency of time”

We have proudly premiered “The currency of time” on the 2th of February.

The result came to fruition after a creation process of two weeks, one week of shooting and one week of editing. The physicality was created in collaboration with the 3rd year students of PERA in Northern Cyprus.

The story revolves around a woman's journey as she navigates the space between life and death, a path illuminated by the collective memories and guidance of her tightly-knit community. Each member contributes to her voyage, recounting shared experiences and unique moments that deeply impacted their lives.

This narrative journey is not just a tribute to the woman's life, but also a reflection on the community's resilience in the face of loss. As they come together to guide her spirit to the afterlife, their shared grief transforms into a powerful bond of collective healing, reaffirming their faith in life's cyclical nature.

Premiere of "Oni wa soto (鬼は外)"

A 4 week long creation with the 3rd year students of the dance department of Civica Scuola Paolo Grassi has resulted in the evening length performance “Oni wa soto

Oni wa soto takes inspiration from both Noh theatre and the Setsubun festival.

Setsubun is a Japanese ritual that is done once a year at the beginning of spring in which the participants throw beans at one of their family members wearing the oni (devil) mask while shouting ''Oni wa soto!'' (Devils out!).

Oni wa soto is a blend of soft flowing movement qualities, Noh theatre appearances, hints of achronological narrative and surreal lighting resulting in what could be considered as magic realism.

Premiere of "Welcome to my funeral"

After 2 weeks of creation at Fabbrica Europa in Firenze and at Aterballetto in Reggio Emilia we have premiered Welcome to my funeral which will be performed in various festivals and venues in the coming months such as Centrale Montemartini (Roma), La Primavera dei Teatri (Castrovillari) and Dap Festival (Pietrasanta) with other dates set for next season.

Welcome to my funeral addresses the increasingly blurring of the borders between reality and the virtual world.

How do we as humans use technology to feed our own egos? How do we use technology to form unique bonds with others? How do we use technology to manipulate strangers? These are a couple of questions that the performance addresses

Watching Beards Grow is a short dance performance of 18 minutes created in a short period of 4 days for the young dancers of the Equilibrio Dinamico Ensemble.
